Cardinal Tetra

Many veteran fishkeepers often prefer the more colorful, higher-priced cousin of the neon tetra - the cardinal tetra. Its common name refers to the very prominent, cardinal red stripe running horizontally down its body, which is paired with an iridescent blue stripe that is visible even when the fish tank lights are off. Personality-wise, they can be a little shy if you suddenly walk in front of the tank, but they are quick to come out of hiding, especially if you have a large school of them. Imagine watching an entire school of these colorful jewels swimming back and forth in the midst of a forest of lush, green plants. 

Cardinal Tetras embody refined aquatic artistry, distinguished by their electric blue dorsal stripe contrasting with a deep scarlet belly. These diminutive schooling fish thrive in meticulously maintained soft, acidic waters between 23–25°C, where they exhibit their most vibrant colouration. Keeping them in substantial groups of twelve or more unlocks their full behavioural complexity and creates a mesmerising visual spectacle. An essential choice for aquascapers pursuing botanical-style setups and harmonious community dynamics.
